We never collect information directly from a child. Everything on your child's page is entered by you and stays under your control.

What is COPPA?
Understanding the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a U.S. federal law designed to protect the privacy of children under 13 years old online. Enacted in 1998 and recently updated in 2025, COPPA regulates how websites and online services can collect, use, and disclose personal information from children.
Key COPPA Requirements:
- Parental Consent: Obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from children
- Clear Notice: Provide clear privacy policies about data collection practices
- Data Minimization: Collect only necessary information for the service's function

2025 Updates
Recent COPPA amendments strengthened data retention limits and require separate consent for third-party advertising. Compliance deadline is April 22, 2026.

About COPPA Safe Harbor Programs
COPPA Safe Harbor programs are FTC-approved self-regulatory programs that provide guidelines and oversight for companies handling children's data. Companies can seek certification through approved Safe Harbor programs like PRIVO to demonstrate compliance with COPPA requirements and gain legal safe harbor protection.
We are not currently certified by a Safe Harbor program. We have, however, designed TapTap Buddy to align with key COPPA principles through privacy-first design and strict data minimisation. Parents maintain full control over all data collection and management.

Parent-Only Account Creation
Only parents (18+) can create accounts and set up emergency contacts. Children never interact with our online systems or provide any personal information.
Nothing Personal On The Tag
The tag contains a unique web address and nothing else. Your child's details live on our servers, encrypted, and you can change them or switch the page off instantly. A lost tag is a piece of silicone, not a copy of your child's information.
Only Shown When Tapped
The page lives at a random, unguessable web address. It is not searchable, not listed anywhere, and cannot be found by trying addresses. The only way to learn it is to physically tap the tag. If someone who tapped once saved the link, you can switch that tag off from your dashboard and the page stops working immediately. The band itself has no GPS and never tracks your child.
